Injustice, Racism A Statement on Family Separation at Our Border

Immigration & Family Separation

These are Romans 8:22 days.  “For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.” It seems that the broken places of the world have never been more acutely in need of healing.

Issues surrounding immigration are in the forefront right now. Thousands of people are fleeing danger and poverty hoping to find a better life in our country. This is slamming into an already overwhelmed border control system.

And now many are experiencing confusion and concern over a policy that has led to the separation of immigrant families at our border. This issue has significant political and biblical ramifications which we all agonize over. While the policy has been changed in recent days through Executive Order, there are thousands of families still separated from one another without a clear path to reconnection.

But what can we actually do to actually help? Here are a few ideas.

  1. Pray for our government leaders as we are instructed to do (1 Timothy 2:2) that they will together come up with a lasting solution to our immigration struggles.

  2. Contact your governmental leaders if you feel compelled to share with them your perspective and when you do, remind them that you are praying for them.

  3. Get involved with or support these organizations that intersect the world of immigration and immigrants.

    1. The Grace Care Center – gracechurch.us/carecenter

    2. Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic - nclegalclinic.org

    3. World Relief - worldrelief.org

Let us cry out like the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 16:22 with these simple words…”Come Lord!” and bring your truth and your peace! And let us join Jesus in his desperate work of healing the broken places of our world.
